Meet The Author

Mary Martin has been an artist and gardener most of her life. After years as a stay-at-home mom and free-lance artist/illustrator, she entered the field of graphic art where she works in advertising and illustrating.

While completing her degree in graphic arts, Mary took the opportunity to fulfill her dream of writing and illustrating a story about the hollyhock dolls that she made as a child. Growing up in South Dakota, creating dolls from hollyhock blossoms was one of the unique sources of fun on her grandmothers’ farm.

Mary presently lives in Parkville, Missouri, and continues to grow hollyhocks and pass on the tradition of making hollyhock dolls to her children and grandchildren.
